This book is by Garth Nix it is a good book it is about a kid who is supposed to die when he is saved by some key and he finds the source of the creation of the universe

This is the first book in the series by John Flannagan what is pretty funny as well as full on assassinations

and scary monsters it gets pretty boring at some times but its a pretty good book
